Introducing the Rotary Dross Cooler
A passive, indirect cooling system designed for aluminum casthouses where every percent of metal recovery matters.
Hot dross — the oxide-rich byproduct of every melting cycle — enters the drum at over 700°C. Within fifteen to twenty minutes, the cooler brings the temperature down to approximately 120°C through indirect heat transfer to an external cooling jacket. No water, no spray, no gas in contact with the dross.
The result: trapped aluminum droplets stay metallic instead of oxidizing further. Rapid indirect cooling results in 10–30% more metal recovered downstream than conventional cooling methods.
Key figures
- up to 12,000 kg/h — continuous throughput (CETAG 1200)
- 600–1,600 kg — dross per charge, by model
- 15 - 20 min — cooling cycle to approximately 120°C
- 10–30% — more metal recovery than conventional cooling
CETAG engineers, manufactures, and refurbishes rotary dross coolers for casthouses worldwide — backed by a team with decades of aluminum-industry experience.
